Services for our youngest children, ages Birth - 3 are served through Home Visits and our infant/toddler play group. During Home Visits, a licensed Deaf/Hard of Hearing teacher or Speech Language Pathologist comes into your home and addresses 'Routine Based Interventions' and acts as a coach - each visit is tailored to meet the needs of the individual family. Areas of focus include but are not limited to, activities that help your child reach their developmental milestones: cognitive growth, language skills, gross and fine motor movement, social-emotional development and self-help skills. Our teachers can also help with building vocabulary for bed time routines, meals/food groups and bathing. MSAD also employs licensed Speech Pathologist that are available to make sure your student has access to language at an early age.
Depending on the families need, these visits vary and are designed to educate and support your family. Some parents desire to learn about hearing loss, access to language and how best to communicate with your child. Having a licensed Deaf/Hard of Hearing teacher in your home gives you the opportunity to learn about your educational options, have resources at your fingertips, and have your questions answered in a comfortable setting.
The infant/toddler play group is a unique time for both MSAD families and those families in the surrounding community to come together to let their children play and socialize with one another. This gives parents the opportunity to meet other parents who share a common bond of having a Deaf/DeafBlind or Hard of Hearing child. Share joys and milestones, get questions answered and let your child meet others who are just like themselves.
