Transcript:

Hello! My name is Ryan Hastings and I am the activities coordinator here at MSAD. I am very excited to announce a special traditional event that was put on hold for a short time and we are bringing back this year- Pinewood Derby which is a car racing event, pictures and examples will be shown at the end of the video.

Pinewood Derby is a special opportunity for our students to design their own car from a wooden block into various designs then sand the cars, paint, put on wheels and add any ideas they may have onto the cars. This event is very popular all around the USA mostly done by Boy Scouts, but here we make it a co-ed event for all of out students. We are expecting more than 20 students participating! Very exciting!

Some basic rules for Pinewood Derby cars- car length must be no longer than 7 inches and the weight of the car cannot exceed 5 oz (ounces). We will be weighting all cars prior to the race.

The event will take place on Thursday April 27th at the Lauristen Gym from 6-8 PM, it is open to the public, bring your friends and families to come and watch this special event! Also, our Student Life program will be selling snacks and drinks during the race. Feel free to purchase something and support our Student Life program!

We will be handing out prizes for the race in two different divisions- ECE to 5th grade and 6th-12th grade. Trophies will be given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in each respective divisions plus one winner from each division for the most creative and original car designs. We will have three special judges for the creative portion.

I hope to see you all there! It is a very exciting event for our program, school and community! See you there!

Many thanks to Sam for editing this video!
