MSA Governing Board
Board Overview
The MSA Board is the governing body for the Minnesota State Academies, overseeing two campuses – the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf and the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind, both of which are located in Faribault. The board meets once each month with additional meetings scheduled if necessary. On occasion, if board members are unable to be present at meetings in person, they may participate in meetings via phone conference calls.
Our board is composed of seven voting members. Voting members are appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the senate. Members of the board are selected based on criteria established by state statutes. One member represents the Deaf community; one represents the blind community; two are members of the general public with Business, Administrative, or Financial Expertise; one comes from the Minnesota Department of Education; one is a current or former Special Education Director; and one is a current or former Superintendent. Non-voting (ex-officio) members of the Board include one member appointed by the MSAB Site Council, one from the MSAD Site Council, and the Academies Superintendent.
Meeting by Telephone or Other Electronic Means:
Conditions - Minn. Stat. § 13D.021 provides that a meeting of a public body may be conducted via telephone or other electronic means if meeting in a public location is not practical or prudent because of a health pandemic or declared emergency.
