Middle School

Our middle school program includes 6th through 8th grade.  As part of our essential belief, we practice a comprehensive, bilingual (American Sign Language & English) education that results in proficiency in both languages is vital for maximizing every student's academic, cognitive, social-emotional, and self-identity potential.  Our classroom content follows the Minnesota State Standards and we have adopted textbooks that follow these standards as well as meet the learning needs of our students.  Instruction in all academic areas is provided by the content area teacher through a variety of flexible grouping strategies.

Our four core subject areas are English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, and our enrichment classes consist of STEM, ASL Language Arts, and Physical Education.  In addition to the middle school courses, we offer student leadership opportunities and other exciting programs/events for students, such as:

  • STEM

  • ASL Language Arts

  • Physical Education

  • Environmental Learning Camp

  • ASL Day/Math Fun Day

  • Student Council

Classes at Faribault Public Schools

We have a co-op relationship with Faribault Public Schools. If a student would like to take classes at Faribault Middle School, we will coordinate schedules, interpreters, transportation, and accommodations. The opportunity to take classes at both MSAD and Faribault Public Schools is a worthwhile experience for many of our students.   The deadline for signing up for fall classes will be April 1st and for spring classes will be November 1st, each year.

Positive Behavior Intervention Program

Our middle school team has implemented a year-long character incentive program that partners with our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum.  Our goal is to foster students to grow academically, socially and emotionally and it is imperative that we teach students what they can do to support themselves, school, and their community.  By setting clear academic, social, and behavioral expectations, it is our goal to create this incentive program that promotes the atmosphere for learning.

To recognize our students’ growth and success, there are monthly Trojan(s) of the Month assemblies where we recognize and celebrate students who have demonstrated excellence in these regards: academic performance, character, behavior, effort, social relationships, and attendance.
