Family ASL Classes
Learn American Sign Language Together
The Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf believes that strong communication is the foundation of healthy family relationships. Our Family ASL Classes provide parents, siblings, grandparents, caregivers, and other family members with the opportunity to learn American Sign Language (ASL) in a welcoming, supportive, and interactive environment.
Whether you're just beginning your ASL journey or looking to strengthen your communication skills, our classes are designed to help families build confidence while creating meaningful connections with their children.
What You'll Learn
Family ASL classes focus on practical, everyday communication that families can immediately use at home. Topics may include:
- Everyday conversations
- Family routines and home vocabulary
- School-related signs
- Questions and answers
- Storytelling and shared reading
- Deaf culture and community
- Visual communication strategies
Classes emphasize interactive learning through conversation, activities, games, and real-life situations.

Family ASL Classes are open to:
- Parents and guardians
- Brothers and sisters
- Grandparents
- Extended family members
- Foster parents
- Caregivers
No previous ASL experience is required. Families of all skill levels are welcome.
